Get involved as a Volunteer at the Leeds Waterfront Festival 2011

June 7, 2011

Some of you kindly supported us at the Leeds Waterfront Festival last year, and we can’t put a value on the incredible work volunteers contribute to this event.

We are once again looking for hard working, reliable and enthusiastic volunteers over the weekend to help out with a range of tasks from load in, marshalling, giving out information for visitors, stage management and clean up.

Volunteers are needed from about 10.30 – 17.30 on each day. A minimum of 2 hours is requested. First Aid qualifications are not mandatory but extremely helpful.

This is a fantastic opportunity to support the Leeds Waterfront and have a fun day with your friends or colleagues as a part of the fourth Leeds Waterfront Festival.

Please e-mail your interest as soon as possible, with preferred date and time to Rachel Clunas rachel.clunas@aireactionleeds.org.uk

We look forward to hearing from you!

Festival Fun for all the Family

June 6, 2011

With Leeds Waterfront Festival just around the corner, plans reveal Thwaite Mills as a guaranteed family favourite.

Taking place on the 25th and 26th of June, Leeds Waterfront Festival will be taking to the waterfront for the fourth consecutive year and is set to be bigger and better than ever.

Always a popular choice with the families, Thwaite Mills has been a prominent venue at the festival over the years and for 2011 has revealed an exciting programme of activities.

Starting at 10.30am on the Saturday as a treat for all the Dad’s the venue will be host to the Leeds MG & Classic Car Show which will be displaying 50-60 classic cars. For all the Mum’s and daughter’s there will be a craft fair displaying all things arts and crafts.

There will be a bouncy castle, face painter and a children’s workshop to keep the kids occupied and everyone can bring along a picnic to enjoy while listening to live music from local buskers. Plus take a look inside the museum where you can take a tour of the working watermill.

The fun carries on into Sunday as from 1.00pm visitors can come along with their picnic and join in with the team from the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers who will be making smoothies by cycling,  playing the interactive recycling game- Bin Sling Saloon, hosting natural craft activities and guiding nature trails.

Adrian Marshall, site development officer for Thwaite Mills, said: “The festival is a chance for people to have some fun but also learn that Leeds has a lot to offer.

“We have great things going on down here at Thwaite Mills, the activities are endless and there is something for the whole family.”

Leeds Waterfront Festival is this year joining forces with Leeds Community Foundation’s Dragon Boat race and is holding a host of water and land based activities bringing the river to life at four waterfront hotspots – Granary Wharf, Brewery Wharf, Clarence Dock and Thwaite Mills.

Rachel Clunas, Aire Action Leeds project officer and co-festival organiser said:  “The entertainment is really coming together and festival goers will be able to enjoy a real family feel at some fabulous free events.

“We’re confirming new entertainment all the time so people should make a note of the date in their diaries and keep checking our website or follow us on Twitter to get all the latest news. It’s going to be a fun packed weekend that won’t disappoint!”

The Thwaite Mills site will be accessible by a free vintage bus from the three city centre sites, Granary Wharf, Brewery Wharf and Clarence Dock or there is free parking at Thwaite Mills Watermill, Thwaite Lane, Stourton.

Further details about the festival can be found at www.leedswaterfrontfestival.com.

Leeds Waterfront Festival 2011 – Coming Soon

April 27, 2011

LEEDS WATERFRONT & DRAGON BOAT FESTIVALS JOIN FORCES FOR 2011

A real summer time treat is in store for the people of Leeds this June, as the fourth annual Leeds Waterfront Festival is collaborating with Leeds Community Foundation’s Dragon Boat Festival in a joint waterfront spectacular.

Over the weekend of the 25th and 26th June a host of water and land based activities will bring the waterfront to life at four festival sites – Granary Wharf, Brewery Wharf, Clarence Dock and Thwaite Mills.

Clarence Dock will be transformed into a world of Dragon Boat racing with teams of local businesses competing against each other for the much sought after first prize.

Confirmed at Granary Wharf so far will be live music at the Hop, canoeing taster sessions, mouth-watering food stalls and a return of a 2010 highlight – the vibrant ‘walk on water’ balls.

Many waterfront restaurants and chefs, including the ever popular Saturday Kitchen chef, James Martin and world class chefs from the Mint Hotel, will also be offering tastings along the waterfront in a real foodies delight.

Family favourite, Thwaite Mills will be hosting Leeds MG Classic Car Club in a display of classic cars along with a craft fair and lots of other activities to cater for all the family.

Boat trips and vintage buses will be running between the sites and the sound of music from buskers which help guide visitors between venues.

Rachel Clunas, Aire Action Leeds project officer and co-festival organiser said: “Putting the two events together made great sense and enables us to put on a fantastic showcase of Leeds’ waterfront. The entertainment is really coming together and festival goers will be able to enjoy a real family feel at some fabulous free events.

“We’re confirming new entertainment all the time so people should make a note of the date in their diaries and keep checking our website or follow us on Twitter to get all the latest news. It’s going to be a fun packed weekend that won’t disappoint!”
